Liverpool’s stunning comeback against Barcelona was dramatic, and there was further drama in Spain during the Champions League match.

Mundo Deportivo have taken claims from Spanish radio about serious electricity issues. It’s explained that a ‘thermal power station collapsed’ and it was just at the same time as Liverpool and Barca kicked off.

The huge match meant there was increased demand, and the ‘entire system’ went down.

The electricity authorities in Spain were left in a very difficult situation, with increased demand and vastly reduced supply, and this meant they had to go to the ’emergency protocol’.

Red Eléctrica is the appropriately named company who were dealing with the issue, and they had to buy in power at a cost which Mundo Deportivo explain was 20000% more than the usual.

If they hadn’t done that, the power could have gone off for parts of Spain. Some in Barcelona may wish it had, given the mauling they watched their team take against Liverpool.
