Sékou Mara is close to leaving Bordeaux for Southampton, according to multiple claims coming out of France today.

20 Minutes journalist Clement Carpentier, took to Twitter to explain the Saints have made an offer to Bordeaux to sign the 19-year-old. Their bid consists of €11m plus €2m in bonuses and an additional 10 percent fee from a potential future sale of the striker.

Bordeaux have ‘accepted’ Southampton’s bid for the France U21 international, who is set to arrive at St Mary’s Stadium, and will sign a five-year deal with the Premier League club.

Carpentier’s claims on the attacker are also backed up RMC Sport as they explain that Mara ‘will join’ Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side. His sale for €11m plus variables should help Bordeaux with a ‘healthy cash flow’.

The French side have been facing serious struggles with their finances, finishing bottom of Ligue 1 last season, and then facing a further enforced relegation due to their situation, something the club is currently fighting against.

There’s the possibility of players being allowed to leave for free should things take a further turn for the worse, but RMC insist Southampton’s fee is guaranteed.
