For the past couple of weeks, claims from the Spanish and English press have insisted Villarreal star Pau Torres is set to make a switch to Aston Villa in the summer window.

On Wednesday, the La Liga side’s president, Fernando Roig, insisted negotiations are ongoing with the Villans for the defender’s transfer.

Super Deporte insist otherwise as they state Aston Villa ‘closed’ the agreement with the La Liga side last month.

It’s said the Yellow Submarine will earn €33m plus an additional €5m in potential bonuses from the centre-back’s sale to the Premier League side.

The report also explains that Torres will be a new Aston Villa player ‘next Tuesday’, as long as there are no last-minute twists and surprises. The Spain international will sign a five-year deal at Villa Park.

Having already managed the player in the past at the Spanish club, Unai Emery will be able to reunite with his compatriot at Aston Villa.

Torres is a product of Villarreal’s youth system. Super Deporte say he made a ‘thoughtful decision’ to leave them for the English club in this window.
