Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger wants to talk to Manchester United’s new manager before agreeing to join the club this summer.

That’s according to SportBILD journalist Christian Falk, who says the German is delaying making a decision before United announce their next boss.

Rudiger is out of contract at Chelsea in the summer, and while the club have been working for some time to get him signed to a new deal, there has been no success on that front.

The sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich by the government means the club cannot offer him a new deal for the time being either, leaving him free to negotiate with clubs around Europe about a free transfer.

Manchester United can hold talks with the player’s agent, and several reports have made it clear that they are keen.

It seems, though, they’ve been somewhat rebuffed by the player, with Falk stating that the Chelsea defender ‘would like to talk’ with the man in charge at Old Trafford before deciding on a move.

That makes sense on his part, given Ralf Rangnick is set to depart in the future, and there’s not a clear favourite for the position at this moment in time.

Mauricio Pochettino, Erik Ten Hag, Julen Lopetegui and Luis Enrique are all reportedly in the race, but they all offer something completely different, and it seems Rudiger wants a definitive answer on where the Reds are going before deciding.

Now there’s no mention of money here, so we’ll have to assume Manchester United are willing to pay him what he wants and that has already been discussed.

Either way, it seems United need to sort out their managerial situation first before they have a chance of getting the Chelsea star.
