With the English media back to saying that Manchester United and Newcastle United are interested in Sporting defender Gonçalo Inácio, the Portuguese press today brings something interesting about the defender’s situation.

The Lions have been working on contract renewals of their young stars, and according to newspaper Record, the defender already has a verbal agreement to sign a new commitment with the club.

Sporting, however, won’t rush him to sign the new deal, and will wait for the end of the transfer window to see if potential bids arrive for him.

Record mentions that Gonçalo has been ‘closely watched over the last year’ by Premier League clubs such as Manchester United, Newcastle and Liverpool.

It’s said those clubs have the centre-back in the ‘list of opportunities’, as he’s one of those ‘young footballers with margin of progression’.

Sporting will only sell Inácio in case someone matches the price of his release clause, which stands at €45m.

In case Manchester United and Newcastle believe that’s a good price, they better move soon, because his new contract is set to expected to have a €60m release clause.
