Everton have made an approach for the transfer of Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico, according to claims on Monday.

Journalist Matteo Moretto reports that the 27-year-old is not staying at the French side, and a few clubs are already trying to complete his signing.

The Toffees were one of them, but since the player wanted the guarantee that he’d have regular playing time, their offer was turned down.

Meanwhile, it’s also claimed that PSG declined an offer from Real Sociedad, and the rumours regarding Besiktas were ‘completely fake’.

The report doesn’t say how much Everton and Real Sociedad were offering for Rico, or how much PSG are demanding for his sale.

He’s currently valued by Transfermarkt at €7m.

With Jordan Pickford being the Toffees’ main choice for the position, his absences last season were covered by Robin Olsen, with 11 appearances, and youngster João Virgínia, who had three games.

Since the Sweden international is back at Roma following the end of this loan, the Goodison Park side now look for another experienced goalkeeper to be on the bench.
