For so long it looked like Leeds United wouldn’t have to go through the nightmare of the play-offs.

With a great feeling around the club due to Marcelo Bielsa, the Yorkshire side were marching towards automatic promotion. Premier League football has been missing from Elland Road for far too long, and long suffering supporters thought the wait would be over.

Without additions during the January window, Bielsa’s side ran out of steam and now they have to dust themselves off, find some energy from somewhere, and battle through the play-offs.

Summer transfers will be entirely dependent on it.

Ander Iturraspe, who is finishing his contract with Athletic Club Bilbao, has been repeatedly linked to Leeds, largely because of how well he did when Bielsa was manager at the Basque club.

El Gol in Spain say that Rayo Vallecano are interested, but they note the Leeds interest. A move to the English club is said to be ‘completely’ dependent on them getting promotion.

That is presumably from the perspective of what Leeds want, because Rayo have just been relegated to Spain’s second division… which isn’t on the same level as the Championship.
