Crystal Palace and West Ham United look likely to miss out on signing Real Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda as he looks set to join Sporting Club de Portugal.

That’s according to Record, who say the Portuguese side are the ‘closest to securing’ the highly rated youngster’s signature.

The newspaper explains that such a scenario was unthinkable a few weeks ago as the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea and Arsenal were chasing his signature.

However, no such deal came to fruition and that led the player’s agent, Fali Ramadani, to travel to England to look for a club that could ‘pay more than the Lions’.

It led to talks in London yesterday with the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham but neither of those have managed to convince him.

While they can put more money on the table than Sporting, they have ‘less attractive projects’ to offer the player given the Portuguese side can offer a push for the title and Europa League football.

Crystal Palace can’t offer either of those prospects, although West Ham are at least in Europe following their success in the Conference League last year.

It is better project on offer, though, that has led to Sporting believing that they can win the race for the highly rated prospect.

Fresneda is said to have indicated that he is more inclined to move to Portugal than elsewhere, despite his agents’ efforts to meet with various clubs in London yesterday.
