To speak of Napoli’s summer business, Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli today had a word with AS journalist Mirko Calemme on the Radio Goal show.
The reporter brought the scenario from several players who belong to the Serie A squad, and one of them is Fabian Ruiz, who’d recently been linked to a move to Newcastle United.
It turns out that, at least in the journalists’ opinion, the midfielder’s transfer to the Magpies is ruled out, especially because the player has other plans in mind.
“The Spaniard said ‘no’ to Newcastle because he knows he can aim for a more prestigious club,” said Calemme (via Area Napoli).
“With Napoli there is no certainty, but the renewal has been blocked for two years and everything suggests that he is the one sacrificed on the market. But De Laurentiis, as we know, never say never.”
When speaking of Newcastle’s attempt to sign Ruiz from Napoli, Calemme may be referring to the offer made by the Magpies in January.
Multiple sources from Italy claimed the St James’ Park side failed to land the midfielder back then, as he had been aiming for a move to a club such as Real Madrid.
With Newcastle now far away from the relegation zone, it’s fair to say their attractiveness will have changed since the winter, so perhaps the Magpies could give it another shot this summer.
