Niklas Süle spent three years in Hoffenheim’s development system before being promoted to the first team in 2013.

The centre-back had to wait for two more years before being a regular at Hoffenheim and his performances for them between 2015 and 2017 saw him draw attention from Bayern Munich and Chelsea.

In the summer of 2019, the Bundesliga winners acquired the 24-year-old and the defender has been featuring regularly for the Bavarian club since then.

German outlet Spox sat down for a lengthy interview with the player and at the end of the chat, Süle was asked if it’s correct Chelsea made an offer for him.

He said: “It was a thought to go to the Premier League. This is one of the leagues in which I really want to play.”

“At the time, however, I saw the change to Munich as the best step. And as you can see, I am very happy at Bayern. Not only because I got my way, but also because the club, the fans and all the staff are great.”

Süle clearly isn’t keen on clarifying the claimed Chelsea offer, perhaps not wanting to deny it because it’s a nice story to have out there.

With him now publicly expressing his desire to play in England, this may be a situation to keep an eye on for the future.
