Juan Mata left Manchester United at the end of last season, with the 34-year-old’s contract at Old Trafford coming to an end.

He had been expected to return to Spanish football, and multiple La Liga clubs were said to be keen and on the verge of making a swoop for the veteran. That situation dragged on, and clearly getting impatient and wanting to secure himself a new club, the Manchester United favourite has instead chosen a surprise alternative.

Mata is now on the verge of signing for Galatasaray, with Turkish outlet Fanatik picturing him in the country and on his way to sorting out the formalities of the move.

Given the attacking midfielder is a free agent there’s obviously no transfer fee to pay and Galatasaray just had to agree personal terms to secure Mata.

According to Fanatik’s report, the player will sign a one year contract with the Istanbul club.

Galatasaray have already informed the stock market they’re in advanced negotiations to seal the deal.

Mata will earn less than €2m for the season he’s in Turkey.
