Marca this week reported that Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu had assured Denis Suarez he’d sort a transfer out for him this month, and Arsenal were presented as the only possibility.

Suarez has been presented as keen on a move to the Emirates for some time and it’s felt like it’s him and his entourage who have targeted the Gunners rather than the reverse.

The problem for Arsenal has reportedly been money, with Marca presenting them as almost pleading poverty, with the club denying they can conjure up a reasonable transfer fee in the January window.

El Desmarque say there’s now been a breakthrough and Suarez is ‘one step away’ from signing for the Premier League club.

The potential transfer is said to have ‘accelerated’ in recent hours and whilst the agreement isn’t yet complete, it’s in the ‘final phase’. Suarez could subsequently miss Barcelona’s Copa del Rey match later today.

The move would be a loan and there’s no claim on buying clauses.
