Mexican striker Santiago Muñoz is set to leave Newcastle United, with his club Santos Laguna already ‘making way’ for him.

That’s according to Debate, who cover the youngster today ahead of his imminent return to his homeland.

Last month we covered a report explaining that Muñoz was set to return to Santos from his loan spell with Newcastle, where he has been on loan since August of last year.

He’s been unable to make an impression at St James Park and, after Newcastle showed no interest in a permanent deal, he is set to return at the end of this year.

Debate now explain that Santos are preparing for his arrival by ‘making way’ for him via the sale of Eduardo ‘Mudo’ Aguirre.

He’s close to finalising a deal to join Chivas and the plan is for Muñoz to ‘take his place’ in the first team.

He went on loan to Newcastle last year but has not been able to establish himself or make an impression and now has ‘one foot outside’ of the club.

His return will be made easier by the departure of Aguirre, who could also have Club America as a potential destination.
