Barcelona defender Eric Garcia is ‘not contemplating’ a move to Arsenal despite reports of the Gunners interest in England.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say that the defender only wants to play for Barcelona and is not thinking about a departure.

The newspaper explains that recent reports in England have made it clear that Garcia ‘would be in the sights’ of Arsenal due to his lack of minutes for Barcelona this season.

That has led the Gunners to eye up either a permanent transfer or a loan deal this month but Garcia is not ‘contemplating’ a departure.

He has a contract at the Nou Camp until 2026 and ‘only has in mind’ to play for Barcelona, despite the fact he has found himself out of the first-team picture. He would not leave in any form.

That suits manager Xavi, who has already made it clear on several occasions that his desire is to keep the squad intact until the end of the season and avoid any departures. That also applies to Garcia, despite him only playing a secondary role at present.

That further rules out a potential move to Arsenal, who are said to be interested in bringing him back to England but seemingly face a brick wall if they do make a bid.
