At the weekend, we covered multiple claims made in Italy that explained Liverpool have set their sights on Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners.

It was also stated the Reds have made contact with the midfielder’s entourage over a potential deal in the winter market.

Corriere della Sera had detailed Liverpool’s interest in the 24-year-old and added the Serie A side have no plans to part ways with him in January. They would only change their stance if they were to receive an offer they cannot refuse.

The Netherlands international has managed five goals and two assists from 22 matches in all competitions this season and is one of the key players under Gian Piero Gasperini.

He scored the equaliser in his side’s 2-1 win over Bologna in the league on Monday. Prior to this tie, Sky Italia had a chat with Atalanta sporting director Tony D’Amico, where he was directly quizzed about the reports linking Koopmeiners to Liverpool.

Responding to that, D’Amico said: “There’s nothing concrete with Liverpool: we welcome the interest, but he’s one of our players.”

The Dutchman was also pressed on the recent reports of Liverpool wanting to sign him.

“I’m playing for Atalanta, I’m very happy here and I’m only thinking about this,” he said, as quoted by TuttoMercatoWeb.

This should see Jürgen Klopp’s side look elsewhere in the market for a new midfielder, at least in January.
