Barely a day goes by without an Italian newspaper having a claim over Matteo Darmian moving to Serie A. The destination club changes very often, but for over a year there’s been an assumption that Darmian going back to Italy is simply a matter of time and circumstance.

And, should circumstances be right for AS Roma this winter, Corriere dello Sport believe the club could ‘go down the road’ which leads to Darmian.

Once again, confidence for a potential deal comes from Jose Mourinho not seeing Darmian as one of his more important players. The Italian newspaper state Darmian has ‘no feeling with Mourinho’ and could therefore leave Manchester United.

Unless another player comes in it’s hard to see Mourinho agreeing to a January move for the fullback, wanting to keep as many options in his squad as possible.

As for a transfer fee, in Italy it will be felt the closer Darmian gets to the end of his contract, currently due to end in June 2019, the less Manchester United can ask.
