Yesterday we covered reports from Turkey that Crystal Palace were to send a club official to watch AS Monaco and Besiktas last night.

The objective of the trip to Monte Carlo was to get a lowdown on Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun, who’s also been linked with Newcastle United. There have been no reports Newcastle United attended the game.

Besiktas pulled off one of the surprises of round three when they defeated the Ligue 1 title holders last night. Tosun impressed by scoring two goals in his side’s 2-1 victory, and the Turkey international was named Match of the Match by French sports newspaper L’Equipe, who even praised him in a separate article from their match report.

Both Crystal Palace and Newcastle United have again been linked with Tosun in the past two weeks after the two English sides tried to sign the forward in the last window. The two clubs came in with bids to sign the Besiktas player, but were rejected by the Turkish champions.

Crystal Palace and Newcastle United have sent scouts to watch Tosun in Turkey’s last two internationals, and it’s expected both Premier League sides will come in with improved bids in the January window.
