Harry Kane may not have scored against Real Madrid on Tuesday evening, but he’s certainly impressed the Spanish media, who are styling him as a new type of English footballer.

Spanish newspaper AS have a feature on the player’s development, and rumours (credited to the English media) of Real Madrid being keen to sign him at some point in the future.

AS say that if the English press are to be believed, Harry Kane will be the soap opera of the 2018 summer transfer window. Given their willingness to continually pass credit to English newspapers, it’s a given there’s no big Real Madrid interest at this stage.

Tottenham are trying all their well used tricks to keep Kane for as long as possible, explain AS for a Spanish audience, playing on his affinity with the club.

AS go through British players and suggest they’ve not been huge successes when leaving the country, but then they explain Kane is different. The Spurs striker impressed at the Bernabeu, and could be a success overseas because: ‘He hasn’t stepped in a pub in his life, he doesn’t touch the greasy fish and chips and he is an obsessive fan of… American football.’

Whoah there AS.

Whilst we wouldn’t suggest Kane is anything but the perfect professional, the description is misleading.

We’re pretty sure he has stepped into a pub and whilst fish & chips may not be his favourite, the Tottenham star has made it repeatedly clear he loves a curry with his friends and family… which is as close to modern English food culture as it gets.

In an effort to talk him up, AS have felt it necessary to talk down his Englishness, which probably says a lot for how England internationals are seen in Spain, or perhaps the English in general.
