Tuesday night was a huge test for Harry Winks, away to the best team in Europe at the age of just 21, and without much relevant experience behind him.

Winks passed the test well, and Tottenham fans were pleased with what they saw from the youngster.

The Spanish media can be harshly honest, and wouldn’t have hesitated to say if they thought the match was too much for Winks, that he’s perhaps another overhyped English youngster, a theme they like.

But Winks’ performance left room for praise alone. Marca rated Winks as two stars, one of the better players on the pitch, and believe he’s proven to be ‘good in the centre of the pitch’, even if most of Tottenham’s attacks came from wide areas.

AS say Winks earned his ‘doctorate’ with his role in the middle for Tottenham, which suggests they certainly feel the Spurs youngster used the match to prove he can play at such a level.

Mundo Deportivo, a Catalan newspaper so probably biased against Real Madrid, rated Winks, and every other Tottenham player, higher than every opponent apart from Keylor Navas.

Harry Winks may not have been the star of the show, but he’s certainly picked up some respect with his performance.
