While no transfer has been agreed as of yet, Duje Caleta-Car has flown to London from Marseille just in case something happens.
That’s what La Provence claim, revealing the Croatian defender is on his way to the English capital, ‘where two possibilities exist’.
The names of those clubs aren’t revealed, but RMC Sport, who relay the information, point out that West Ham, Aston Villa and Southampton ‘have shown interest these past few hours’.
None of this should come as a surprise, especially since the Saints have been linked over the last few days with the Marseille man.
Pushed to one side in the south of France, the centre-back would be a good opportunity to get some money and wages off the bill, which is why there is hope a deal with a Premier League club can be struck.
West Ham are still in need of a bit of depth in the role, especially with Nayef Aguerd out for the foreseeable future, while Aston Villa will need someone to fill in for new signing Diego Carlos, who is out of action for a long time following a serious Achilles injury picked up after the second game of the season.
As for Southampton, they have been looking for a new centre-back, although the belief is they are going after Loïc Badé on loan from Rennes.
If that goes through, it would leave just Aston Villa and West Ham in for Caleta-Car (are they the two possibilities?), who has often pushed back offers he felt weren’t good enough.
The fact he has already travelled to London, however, suggests he is now far more open to a move, where the Hammers, Southampton and the Villans will be potentially waiting for him to try and convince him to join their ranks.
