Lazio’s Nicolo Rovella was linked with a move to Manchester City some months ago. While the Citizens are still keeping an eye on the midfielder, Liverpool have also joined the race.
The midfielder, who has impressed in Serie A this season, is still on loan from Juventus but Lazio have a conditional obligation to buy him permanently in the summer.
There is quite a bit of certainty that he will join the Roman club permanently but his future is far from secure.
Gazzetta dello Sport have looked at Rovella’s situation and they indicate that Liverpool’s ‘enquiries have bounced’ for the Italian, with Manchester City and Arsenal also having asked about the 23-year-old.
What they mean is the Reds have made contact.
As of now, Lazio have ambitions of keeping all of their star players – including Rovella, Nuno Tavares and Mario Gila, but things could change soon.
Liverpool can get the opportunity to sign Rovella, if Lazio fail to make it to the Champions League next season or if they do not win the Europa League. This will force Marco Baroni’s side into making financial decisions.
The Rome club have spent €50m on signings in the past few months and if all of that doesn’t pay off through European qualification, budgetary decisions will have to be made. Rovella, as a result, can be moved on after he moves to Lazio permanently.
