Chelsea have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ to sign Pierre Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona on deadline day.

That’s according to Sport, who say that the Gabonese striker will return to London this summer.

Chelsea have been hunting for a new striker for weeks after letting both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner depart for Inter Milan and RB Leipzig respectively.

They’ve focused their attention on Aubameyang, who Thomas Tuchel worked with at Borussia Dortmund, and have been in negotiations with Barcelona over a deal for weeks.

The Catalans are happy to sell, despite Aubameyang only arriving in the January transfer window, as any deal will mean a big profit on a player who arrived on a free and they’ll be able to get his wages off the books.

Sport now report that there is an ‘agreement in principle’ with Chelsea for a permanent transfer that will be worth ‘less than €20m’.

There is no official confirmation as yet, but an agreement is there, with Tuchel’s ‘insistence’ key to the two sides ‘closing the deal’.
