According to a claim in the Spanish media, Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic wants to leave the Champions League title holders this summer, and Manchester City are in the mix to sign him.

The Croatia international struggled to hold down a place in the staring eleven last season and wants to move on in this transfer window, something he’s made clear publicly. Real Madrid have tried to change his mind, but Kovacic insists he wants to go.

AS report Kovacic’s situation at Real Madrid has become complicated, and subsequently the player is looking for a way out in this transfer window. Last year the Spanish club managed to convince the Croatian to remain at the club, but after failing to get games a transfer now looks more likely.

It’s claimed there will be plenty of clubs looking to sign Kovacic and Manchester City are one of those clubs waiting to pounce on the central midfielder.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is said to have been repeatedly interested in the Real Madrid player, but the Premier League champions would expect to face competition from clubs across Europe.

Kovacic is contracted to Real Madrid until June 2021.
