Over the past month or so, we have seen a couple of articles suggesting that while Tammy Abraham was enjoying himself at AS Roma, he wanted to return to Chelsea down the line.

This would be facilitated by an €80m buy-back clause inserted in the deal taking the England international to Italy in the first place, although that doesn’t become active until 2023.

However, the player’s recent comments to the media after the 1-0 win over Spezia, where Abraham declared his love for Rome and his current club, have caused Il Tempo to review this idea of a return to Chelsea for the striker.

Looking at the 24-year-old’s situation, they explain the €80m buy-back clause is ‘preoccupying’ AS Roma fans, regardless of the fact they still have a year and a half left before the Blues can trigger it.

The good news in all this is that it’s a ‘scenario only possible with the consent of Abraham’, who ‘at the moment, doesn’t seem to have any intention of returning to England’.

They also recall the Englishman’s recent quotes in the process, which were: “Rome is my home, I fell in love with it from the first day. I hope to continue like this.”

Therefore, the belief is that, as long as Abraham still scores goals and continues to enjoy himself in Italy, there isn’t too much to worry about if Chelsea come calling with an €80m cheque, which isn’t a guarantee in itself in the first place anyways.
