After Manchester United CEO Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough made a trip to Barcelona earlier this week, several reports stated the Premier League side have a broad agreement with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong.

The details of the deal have now started to surface, with journalist Gerard Romero sharing the latest update.

According to Romero, Manchester United and Barcelona close an agreement for a deal worth in excess of €85m, which includes €70m in fixed fee plus €17m as easily achievable bonuses.

The midfielder still needs to be convinced for the transfer, though, as for now, he wants to stay at the Camp Nou and continues to ‘shut himself off’ from a move away from the club.

If the Netherlands international stands firm in his stance, then Barcelona’s ‘fair play’ will be complicated. In other words, the La Liga side must find ways to lower their wage bill in order to register new players and De Jong’s stay will make it complicated to achieve it.

Sport state the Dutchman and his entourage are keen to stay at Barcelona, but everyone else is pushing him to accept the move to unblock the operation.

De Jong is the desired target for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who is doing his best to convince his compatriot to arrive at Old Trafford.

If the player doesn’t change his mind on making a move to Manchester United, Barca will have to do everything possible to lower his salary by offering a new deal.

This needs to be done for them to register new signings.
