On November 6th, we relayed news from Spain that Real Madrid ‘steals’ River Plate’s Exequiel Palacios from Barcelona.

It was also claimed the La Liga winners were keen on the midfielder, but it’s the 13-time European champions who are ‘about to close’ his signing.

Today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo has comments from the South American club’s president, Rodolfo D’Onofrio, who confirms talks between his side and the Spanish capital outfit for the 20-year-old.

“After the events that took place, Real Madrid and River made contact. If there is interest in Palacios we will talk about club to club, without hurry, when we are all free,” River Plate’s chief said.

The Catalan newspaper further goes on to claim the deal for Palacios would be closed at €20m.

Even if the South American side and the Champions League winners agree a fee for the player, he will only move to Europe after the end of the season.

Mundo also goes on to mention Palacios is expected to sign a five-year deal with Real Madrid. If the report is true, it will be a blow for Barca as they were also chasing him.
