On September 29th, Manchester United confirmed that Lisandro Martínez will be out of action for an ‘extended period’ due to a foot injury. The Argentina international, who is still in the process of recovery, has travelled back to his home country.

The Manchester United defender visited his former club, Defensa y Justicia, and was in attendance to watch their latest clash against Racing on Wednesday.

Martínez’s visit also gave TNT Sports an opportunity to have a chat with him, and they discussed a few topics including Lionel Messi and Emiliano Martínez picking up more individual honours.

Towards the end, TNT Sports asked the 25-year-old about his injury situation. The World Cup winner suffered a metatarsal injury in Manchester United’s Europa League defeat against Sevilla in April.

Although he had returned to action at the start of this season, the former Ajax man has been forced to spend time on the sidelines, due to an aggravation of the foot injury. The centre-back has insisted that he doesn’t want to rush this time.

“I am in the process of recovery and happy to be here visiting the club. It is the second time that an injury like this has happened to me. So, you have to be patient,” he said.

Manchester United have endured a difficult run so far this season and Erik ten Hag will be hoping to have the fully fit South American at his disposal soon.
