With Hugo Lloris nearing the end of his career, Tottenham need a replacement for the Frenchman, which is why we have seen links to the likes of Alex Meret.

A goalkeeper from Serie A would make the most sense, since that’s Fabio Paratici’s favourite hunting ground, and that’s why seeing Spurs linked with Wojciech Szczesny also makes some sense.

It’s also a bold move from the Tottenham director of football, considering the Poland international’s Arsenal background, but it’s one he wanted to try and pull off.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim that ‘in the last season’, Paratici ‘had revealed himself to be in the footsteps of the footballer’, and he would have ‘gladly taken him’ to the Premier League at Spurs.

However, when negotiations were opened, he received a ‘sharp no’ from the Pole, because Szczesny currently only has eyes for Juventus, and also has a desire to ‘make the most of an experience in America, in the MLS, before finally ending his career’.

In fact, the Tottenham target has made it clear in the past he doesn’t want to play beyond his years, and has a strong plan for his future.

It doesn’t appear to include a return to London, meaning Paratici will have to look elsewhere.
