Arsenal could see both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah leave as free agents at the end of this season.

The Gunners were keen on signing a new striker in January and after failing to strengthen the position, they will continue to look for a No.9 in the summer.

Towards the end of the winter market, Alexander Isak was pushed forward as one of the targets for the north London club. Real Sociedad, however, felt ‘well protected’ due to his high release clause.

On Thursday, Mundo Deportivo stated there was a ‘clear interest in him’ from Arsenal, but the striker was ‘calm’ and ‘focused’ on the La Liga club.

With Mikel Arteta’s side still in the picture for the Sweden international, the English club could face competition from Barcelona.

Sport on Friday explain the 22-year-old is a ‘great alternative’ for the Catalan club, if they fail to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.

Isak signed a new deal last summer and prior to that, the Blaugrana were ‘very, very close’ to bringing him to the Camp Nou. Despite the failure, Xavi Hernández’s side have maintained a good relationship with both the player and his entourage.

The Swede has an €80m release clause and it’s unlikely that any suitors would be matching that figure. There is a ‘very good harmony’ between Isak and La Real, and if Barca were to make an offer, it is ‘very likely’ an agreement could be reached.

Arsenal are in the mix but the attacker, for his part, has ‘paralysed any other offer’, waiting to see what Barcelona will do. Isak’s priority is the Camp Nou side, where he is also liked by their coaches.

Barcelona, however, will only consider making an approach for Isak if they fail to sign Haaland.
