Marca have covered Deportivo La Coruna’s wish to sign Carles Gil from Aston Villa permanently. The player is currently working through a groin problem, and may even need surgery, but Depor are hopeful all will be fine and he’ll be back with them next season.
There’s confusion at Marca, with the Spanish newspaper believing he’s owned by West Ham, but that confusion aside, the message seems clear: Depor will have problems paying whatever Aston Villa want.
The Spanish club have struggled financially for some time and have debts so varied that there’s court cases to see which ones take priority. Aston Villa will be looking for a transfer fee, whilst Depor will be looking for a cheap loan or a free deal.
Even what Aston Villa could consider as a nominal fee (something like €1.5m) could be a struggle for Depor, and it may be worthwhile the Championship club seeing if there’s any other Spanish interest.
Gil is keen on the move, and not so openly keen about going back to Villa and playing for Steve Bruce.
