Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva has insisted he would convince João Neves to pick the treble winners over Manchester United.
Erik ten Hag’s side have been closely following the Benfica player and are keen on bringing him to Old Trafford. Last week, we relayed news from Portugal the Red Devils are convinced to make an effort to sign the 19-year-old.
Silva and Rúben Dias were honoured at the Quinas de Ouro gala yesterday, for winning the Champions League with Manchester City. Speaking to reporters, the former was asked about the Manchester United target and his quotes are relayed by Record.
The 29-year-old attacking midfielder has backed Neves to make a switch to the Premier League and even urged him to join Pep Guardiola’s side.
“João Neves in the Premier League? I think quality players can play in any league. To City instead of United? If I can, I’ll put a wedge in it, of course I will,” he said.
Neves is a product of the Eagles’ academy and made his way into their first team in 2022. This season, he has made 18 appearances, managing a goal and an assist in the process, and his form has caught the attention of Manchester United and a few other clubs.
The Manchester City player has backed the Portugal international to have a bright future ahead.
“Very happy for João and other kids who are appearing in Benfica’s formation and also in the national team,” Silva explained.
“I see him very focused on his club, which is the most important thing at the moment, a very young player but with a very promising future ahead of him. He arrived at the national team, settled in and integrated very well. He’s another one to help, if the coach thinks so, to help us win the European championship.”
Silva now joins Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes in heaping praise on the young midfielder.
