Manchester United may be handed their chance to sign Antoine Griezmann this summer, with Barcelona considering a sale to fund a move for Erling Haaland.
That’s according to AS, who say the Frenchman is one who could be on the transfer list to held new president Joan Laporta bring the Norwegian to the Nou Camp.
The newspaper explains that to sign Haaland, Barcelona will have to secure a ‘big sale’ first and Griezmann is one who could be ‘sacrificed’.
Indeed, the Frenchman is considered the ‘first big decision’ that new director general Mateu Alemany will have to make, with the player on the verge of turning 30 and yet to ‘certify his status’ as a star, particularly in big matches.
The management of his departure may be ‘tricky’, though, as the striker is well-liked in the dressing room and seen as an example for both the senior and younger players.
There is also the matter of finding a suitor, with the player no longer ‘one of the most desired’ players on the market, as he was when he joined Barcelona two years ago.
At that point, he was wanted by several clubs, and it’s claimed he was ‘an obsession for Manchester United’ in particular.
Whether they’d be interested now isn’t mentioned but Griezmann would be much more affordable, with him now valued at €60m.
That is a price Manchester United could likely afford and with them said to be on the hunt for a top-level striker, perhaps an opportunity is presenting itself to get one they’ve had their eye on for a while.
