Everton are eyeing up a move for AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli should he be allowed to leave the club this summer.

That’s according to Il Milanista, who say Carlo Ancelotti would be ‘ready to welcome’ the Italian to Goodison Park.

Romagnoli has found himself out of favour in Milan at times this season, with fellow defenders Simon Kjaer and Fikayo Tomori, who is on loan from Chelsea, taking the spotlight.

That was recently the case in their clash against Manchester United in the Europa League; a clash Romagnoli was forced to miss after suffering a heel injury in training.

The pair impressed again, and the club are now seriously considering whether to bring Tomori in permanently, even if it costs them the €28m clause Chelsea inserted into the deal.

As such, those in charge are also considering whether to sell Romagnoli, whose contract expires next year.

The Rossoneri captain and his agent, Mino Raiola, are said to have ‘badly digested’ the player being left on the bench in recent weeks, and that has caused something of a break in relations with the club.

A contract renewal looks ‘difficult’ to achieve, and so several suitors have emerged in the last few hours and made it clear they would be willing to sign him at the end of the season.

One of those are Everton, with it stated that Ancelotti is ready to welcome Romagnoli to Goodison Park and make him the ‘new leader’ of his defence.

That seems a little strange on the face of it, given Everton are well stocked for centre backs, with Michael Keane, Yerry Mina, Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey all on the books at present.

That means there is little need for Romagnoli but, perhaps if one of those four were to leave, then a replacement would be sought, and that is where this is coming from.

Alternatively, there is every chance that Everton simply see the potential for a good deal and don’t want to pass up the opportunity if it presents itself to them.
