Nottingham Forest made a late effort to sign Atalanta’s Merih Demiral in January.

Back in February, Corriere della Sera reported the defender rejected the Tricky Trees as he didn’t want to ‘risk’ relegation.

Nottingham Forest finished 16th in the table last season and are back again in the picture for the 25-year-old, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

Claims in the UK have talked about the Premier League side’s interest in the centre-back. After relaying this, TMW have provided their own information on this case.

It’s said Nottingham Forest have contacted the Serie A side for the Turkey international and are ‘ready to offer’ around €20m to secure his services.

Despite having a contract until 2026, the report states Gian Piero Gasperini’s side ‘want to sell him outright’ this summer. Inter Milan are the only option from Italy but they want him on a loan deal.

This would please Steve Cooper’s side but a deal remains complicated because the player has ‘no intention’ to join them. In fact, TMW explain that Demiral would rather wait for an ‘unexpected offer’ on the last day of the window to leave Atalanta.

Demiral isn’t the only centre-back target for the English club. On Tuesday, Gianluca Di Marzio stated Nottingham Forest are having ongoing contacts to sign Galatasaray’s Victor Nelsson.
