Former Nottingham Forest winger Bryan Roy has spoken to the Dutch media about his time in England. Roy joined Nottingham Forest in 1994, and formed an impressive partnership with Stan Collymore.

Speaking to Voetbal International, Roy talked about the periods of his career that he enjoyed the most, the ones which have left a mark and are remembered most fondly.

“The first four years at Ajax – also two years after Foggia at Nottingham Forest – were the most beautiful of my career,” said the former Nottingham Forest star.

Roy signed for Nottingham Forest for £2.9m from Italian side Foggia, which at the time was a record fee for the club. The striker spent three seasons at the City Ground, making 85 Premier League appearances, and scoring 24 goals.

During the first season, Roy’s goals helped Nottingham Forest finish third in the Premier League and qualify for Europe, with the club eventually getting to the quarter finals of the UEFA Cup under Frank Clark.

The European campaign, and losing Collymore to Liverpool, saw Nottingham Forest drop down the league table to ninth, and things gradually got worse. After a period frustrated by injury, Roy left the club and signed for Hertha Berlin.

The Dutchman also played 32 times for his country, including being part of the Netherlands squad for the 1994 World Cup
