We’re pretty used to seeing the Italian press reporting transfers as certain and their English counterparts holding back. But it seems the opposite with Antonio Rudiger to Chelsea this weekend.

Both Gazzetta Dello Sport and Corriere Dello Sport are still not sure Rudiger’s transfer to Chelsea is done. They both confirm the €33m + €5m offer, but the word in Italy is that Roma are trying to resist.

The biggest claims come from Gazzetta, who say the player has agreed to move, and despite Roma’s efforts not to accept the bid, the transfer is ‘one step’ from being done.

What is making it difficult for Roma is that Kostas Manolas has recently rejected a €35m move to Zenit. The Italian side were counting on that money, and Rudiger’s transfer to Chelsea is an easy way to fix it.

Corriere claims that a decision should be taken in the ‘next few hours’.

They give the Roma fans some hope the player can stay, although if the offer amount is correct, a transfer to Chelsea looks increasingly likely.
