Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega has told Sky Deutschland that he ‘would like to stay’ at the Etihad beyond this season.

The German has been the second-choice stopper under Pep Guardiola ever since he joined the Citizens on a free transfer in 2022.

Ederson Moraes has been the No.1 goalkeeper at Manchester City and his absence due to injury has allowed the 31-year-old to fill in for him in recent fixtures.

This includes the 3-3 draw against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday, and after the Champions League tie, he had a chat with Sky to discuss his future. Ortega’s deal lasts until 2025 and he expressed his desire to continue with Guardiola’s side.

“It’s not such a difficult topic. Me and my family, we feel super comfortable in Manchester. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. That’s why there aren’t so many arguments against it,” he said.

“But it’s not all my decision alone. There are also two parties involved, the club and the player. I’m quite relaxed about it. There’s a lot to be said for staying here.”

Earlier this month, the former Arminia Bielefeld man said he and his wife are expecting a second child, and that he will consult his wife before making a decision on his future with the Premier League winners.

The player’s latest comments to Sky indicates he wants to continue at Manchester City and the club now have to make a decision on him.

Ortega has kept five clean sheets and conceded 17 goals from 15 games this season.
