Only contracted to Tottenham until 2023, there is already speculation regarding Antonio Conte’s future at the club.
The Italian, known for his volatile temperament, even had an outburst after the loss to Burnley where he suggested he could walk away before backtracking and committing his future, at least in the short-term, to Spurs.
Gazzetta dello Sport on Friday look at whether a return to Italy is possible for the Tottenham manager, saying that, for him, contracts are ‘a stepping stone, certainly not a prison’.
In fact, they point out ‘it is not certain he will reach the end of the race’ with Spurs, and there are ‘too many clouds over London’.
Paris Saint-Germain have been touted as a potential landing spot for Conte, since they are expected to fire Mauricio Pochettino come the end of the season for his failures in the Champions League, but ‘this road is still to be discovered’, according to Gazzetta.
The newspaper then go through the motions, looking at where in Italy he could end up should he decide to return home, weighing up the pros and cons of Juventus, AS Roma and Inter.
It’s the latter they see as the ‘most reliable candidate’ for any job in Serie A, but that isn’t a guarantee either.
One thing is clear from all this, though, and it’s they don’t really expect him to grow old at Tottenham, regardless of Fabio Paratici’s presence there.
