Manchester United are interested in signing Antony before the window closes and have seen a €80m bid turned down by Ajax.
The Eredivisie winners’ decision to reject the Red Devils was followed by the winger not training on Friday.
Reports stated Manchester United are ready to return with an improved bid for the 22-year-old.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf interviewed the player two days ago and published it on Saturday.
Before starting the interview, the outlet again relayed the Dutch champions rejected a €80m bid from Manchester United for the Brazil international, who is one of the vital players for Alfred Schreuder.
Any club that want the star will have to pay a ‘higher amount’ to Ajax, meaning an offer more than €80m. With Erik ten Hag’s side keen to secure his services, De Telegraaf asked the attacker if he can assure the fans he will still be at the club beyond the summer window.
Responding to that, he said: “No, to be honest I can’t. What I can say is that I want to come to the right decision with my family, agents and Ajax, which is good for everyone. Ultimately, God determines my future.
Antony arrived in Europe when Ajax took him from Brazilian side São Paulo in 2020. When quizzed about his development since joining the Amsterdam club, he said: “A lot, in all kinds of areas.
“Thanks to Ajax I have become a more complete footballer; more effective and more of a team player. I am open to the opinions of my coaches and fellow players. Every day I want to become a better footballer.”
De Telegraaf asked about Ten Hag’s role in his development. Antony played under the current Manchester United boss at Ajax from 2020 until the end of last season.
“He has been super important to me. I am grateful to him and wish him all the best,” Antony stressed.
Manchester United have endured a disastrous start to the campaign by losing their first two league games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford. The South American remains confident Ten Hag can turn things around at Old Trafford.
“Knowing Erik I am convinced that he will turn the tide soon. Manchester United will get better under him. He has proven that his method works at his previous clubs,” he said.
