At this point, it’s quite clear that Chelsea want Denzel Dumfries, and it seems the previous deal struck with Inter for Romelu Lukaku could give them a handy advantage as competition for the Dutchman grows.

This is what Gazzetta dello Sport allude to on Tuesday, explaining that the two clubs could end up reaching a ‘double deal’ involving the Belgian and the right-back.

As things stand, Inter have ‘set a guide price’ for Dumfries of ‘around €60m’, which they know isn’t cheap, but following his performances at the World Cup and the belief he’s ready made for the Premier League, they reckon that’s a fair amount.

They know ‘the most concrete interests’ are from England, with clubs such as Chelsea already trying their luck in the summer, and Inter ‘awaits buyers with open arms’ for next summer.

The Blues are likely to be among those knocking on the door, at which point they can also talk about Lukaku.

For the striker, it’s clear that ‘there is no going back to London’, leaving little alternative but to renew the current deal, ‘perhaps by renegotiating the terms’ a little.

Either way, it could be the two deals are tied somewhat, with Lukaku providing Chelsea with a ‘fast-track’ to the Dutchman.
