Well, that’s it. It seems that Porto and Newcastle found out that when a club is offering €7m and the other is demanding €9m, you close the deal for €8m.

That’s how much defender Chancel Mbemba is moving for, according to O Jogo’s front page story on Wednesday.

The newspaper reports that the agreement is done, and should be made official in the next few days. Mbemba is expected to start training for Porto by the start of next week.

Even though there are still some details to be sorted, that’s nothing that could really collapse the transfer. O Jogo claims that the negotiations started with Porto offering €6m and Newcastle demanding €10m, and things escalated from there.

Mbemba is now expected to sign a four-year deal with the Dragons, commiting him to the Portuguese champions until 2022.

The 23-year-old arrived at Newcastle in a move from Anderlecht in 2015 for €12m. He’s made 59 appearances for the club and scored one goal.
