in the last week of the January transfer window, we covered Newcastle United being linked to Porto left-back Zaidu Sanusi.

It was claimed by the Portuguese media at the time that the Magpies were looking for a player for the position and could move for the 24-year-old, who’s valued by the Dragons at around €20m.

So now that Newcastle officials were spotted at Porto’s match against Lazio on Thursday night, it’s hard not to think of these rumours.

The Magpies’ visit to the Estádio do Dragão is reported by newspaper A Bola, who don’t really seem to know who the officials were watching.

It were Lazio who opened the scoring at Porto, and the home side ended up finding a comeback, winning the match 2-1 and getting their advantage in the Europa League’s round-of-32.

Zaidu’s performance had a positive review from the Portuguese media. Even though he gets a bit of the blame for Lazio’s opening goal, he gets praised for his improvement during the match, especially in the attacking sector.

Of course, Newcastle United could end up watching other talents in the game. The most obvious would be Toni Martinez, who scored both of Porto’s goals, and left-back João Mário, who assisted for the two. Goalkeeper Diogo Costa is another one who was praised for guaranteeing the result.
