Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier is of interest to Newcastle United after his ‘good start to the season’.

That’s according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, who says Newcastle, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are all interested in the French stopper.

Meslier joined Leeds in a €6.5m deal from FC Lorient in July 2020 and has been their number one since, making 105 appearances in all competitions.

He has largely impressed in that time too, racking up 28 assists in those games despite Leeds fighting relegation last season and again this season.

Three of those clean sheets have come in the Premier League this season, with Meslier’s performances key for Leeds once again.

He was in good form in the recent draw with high flying Newcastle, pulling off several stops to ensure a vital point for Jesse Marsch’s side.

That performance, and others, appear to have not gone unnoticed and Hawkins reports that the Leeds star is ‘interesting several clubs’

Bayern Munich are one of them as they look for a replacement for Manuel Neuer, while Newcastle and other English clubs are also ‘keeping an eye on him’.

The Magpies are not in desperate need of a new goalkeeper at this moment in time after signing Nick Pope in the summer, and he is only 30, so it seems unlikely they’ll be pushing any time soon.

Perhaps instead they have an eye on Meslier for the future when the time comes to replace Pope and he has another few years of Premier League football under his belt.
