Aston Villa will be joined by Newcastle United in sending scouts to watch defender Attila Szalai this weekend.

That’s according to Fanatik, who say the Premier League duo are planning to watching the Fenerbahçe defender in Sunday’s clash with Galatasaray.

Szalai has been impressing since arriving at Fenerbahçe in a £1.98m deal from Apollon Limassol in January 2021.

He’s enjoyed a steady rise since that point, establishing himself at club level and on the international stage with Turkey, making 23 appearances to date.

His rise has not gone unnoticed in Europe, where he has been linked with several moves over the last year.

There are suitors in the Premier League in particular, and Fanatik say that both Aston Villa and Newcastle are keen on him.

According to them, the two sides are planning to send scouts to this weekend’s clash with Galatasaray to watch over the defender whose suitors are ‘increasing every week’.

They’re not the only ones who’ve noticed the 24-year-old, with it stated that AC Milan and Atlético Madrid are also big fans of him.

They will also be in attendance at the game, and Fenerbahçe are more than aware of the interest, with them expecting Szalai to be one of their ‘biggest’ sales from the current squad.

What price they’ll want remains to be seen, but it’ll certainly be far larger than the £1.98m they paid a year ago, with Aston Villa and Newcastle likely to need a big sum if they intend to get their man.
