On July 4th, Mundo Deportivo reported Newcastle United are ‘sounding out’ Real Betis’ Emerson and the Magpies are set to battle it out with Everton and Tottenham Hotspur for his signing.

Today’s edition of the same newspaper explains the Tyneside club and the Toffees’ interest in the right-back is ‘well known’.

West Ham United have become the latest club to join the chase for the 21-year-old.

The Brazilian is co-owned by Betis and Barcelona, and as per the agreement between the two clubs, he will continue at Estadio Benito Villamarín until next summer and the La Liga winners will have to pay €6m to take him in 2021.

According to Mundo, Los Verdiblancos are concerned that Quique Setién’s side are thinking about selling the defender this summer.

He has three goals and five assists in 30 league matches this season and Barca are ‘already rubbing their hands’ because of the interest in the South American.

Given this situation, the newspaper adds the Catalan club could buy Emerson from Betis for €9m and then sell him this summer. The Premier League remains the ‘most feasible’ destination, where several sides are ‘attentive’ to his possible farewell.

According to Mundo, David Moyes’ side are looking to ‘shore up’ the right-back position, and the Hammers are one of the clubs who like Emerson, along with Everton and Newcastle.

Despite mentioning the three English clubs, Mundo’s report doesn’t provide any concrete indication as to where the fullback could end up in the upcoming window.
