Leeds United this week announced the signing of Mateusz Bogusz, ending a pursuit which had been ongoing since December.

Back then, Leeds were said to be ‘tempting’ the 17 year old to join them. The youngster’s contract was set to expire at the end of June this year, and Ruchu Chorzów had failed in their attempts to get a renewal signed.

Despite putting arguments forward that Poland was the best place to develop, and get regular games, Ruchu Chorzów quickly realised it was a matter of where and not if Bogusz would go.

Napoli had watched him, and Brighton & Hove Albion were interested, but it was Leeds United pushing the hardest to get the player in their youth system.

Ruchu Chorzów’s manager Marek Wleciałowski has been speaking to Polish media this week and was inevitably asked about the transfer.

Speaking to Sport Dziennik, Wleciałowski was quizzed on his club dealing with the player’s departure, and explained: “This case was growing. It’s hard for me not to think about what will happen next. I can see at the moment that the team must start a little differently. Mateusz was a help who could tilt the scales; score a goal, do something different. Now he is gone, but… there is room for others. We have several matches ahead of us. I would like some of our players to show how much value they have and become real leaders.”

He certainly makes Bogusz sound like a promising addition for Leeds United.
