It’s been quite interesting to read this week that Yannick Bolasie, who had his contract with Swansea City rescinded, could now be heading to Brazil.

The striker has been linked to a move to Criciúma, and now we get to see the negotiations confirmed by the Santa Catarina club.

Quoted by Globo Esporte, club chief Alex Brasil admitted that there have been talks to sign the former Swansea player.

“Negotiations are underway and have been since December. It hasn’t been finalised yet, and we’ll only talk about it once it’s done and it’s safe for the club.”

Bolasie rescinded his contract with Swansea in late January, meaning that Criciúma have been in talks for him way before that.

The striker had just joined the Welsh side in November. He had a total of 12 appearances for the Championship club, with no goals and no assists.

What makes this potential move to South America even more interesting is that Criciúma aren’t exactly a big club in Brazil. They had been playing in the second division since 2015, and got the promotion last year, when finishing the Serie B in third place.

Since the league starts in April, it seems Bolasie doesn’t have to rush to get to Brazil, unless he’s keen on playing in the state championships.
