On Thursday, Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min scored in South Korea’s 5-0 win over Singapore in the World Cup qualifiers.
The 31-year-old had an injury scare in the second half when he was at the receiving end of a harsh tackle from opposition midfielder Shah Shahiran. He wasn’t able to get back on his feet until he received treatment from the Taegeuk Warriors medical staff.
After the tie, the Tottenham forward dismissed any injury concerns.
However, South Korea manager Jürgen Klinsmann wasn’t pleased with the tackle on Son, at a time when they were leading the game 4-0. The German made his feelings public and his comments are relayed by Nate.
“It was a foul that didn’t need to be committed in a situation where we were leading by a large score. I felt very angry at that moment,” he said.
The national team coach has also used this incident to explain players are often operating whilst in pain.
“It is rare for any player to play a game with 100% physical condition. It is the player’s responsibility to play while enduring or managing pain,” Klinsmann explained.
The Tottenham player seems to be in agreement with Klinsmann and hinted that he would continue to play through pain for his country.
“It’s not just me, all players play with pain and minor injuries. Being called up to the national team and playing is a stage I’ve dreamed of since I was young,” Son added.
Son and South Korea’s next focus will be on the upcoming World Cup qualifier against China on November 21st.
The attacker has managed eight goals and an assist from 12 league games this season for Tottenham.
