This week, we saw Nottingham Forest defender Felipe suddenly announcing his retirement.

On social media, the centre-back revealed that he will stop playing at the end of the season, and said the reasons for it would be revealed later.

ESPN Brasil now managed to hold an interview with Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo, who’s actually not happy with Felipe’s decision.

The former Palmeiras player said the defender had been teasing his retirement for a while, and they had been trying to change his mind.

“He used to make a few comments, but Murillo and I said no, that it was too early to retire. But now he’s posted on social media that it’s definite. Now the decision is more certain, concrete,” said Danilo.

Now Danilo seems to be still hopeful that Felipe will step back on the decision, as he believes his teammate still has something to show.

“He did a lot with Corinthians, Porto, Atlético de Madrid, with us here last season and now that he’s regaining his confidence after a long time out of the game. I hope he stays here with us for another year and retires in another season.”

Felipe is turning 35 in May, and that even seemed like a reasonable age to retire, but since defenders usually can play for longer, that came out as a surprise.

One of the reasons for it may be the fact that he only has seven appearances for Nottingham Forest this season, and has his contract with the club expiring this summer.

Now it seems he’s not keen on finding a new destination at this stage.
