While a large percentage of Manchester City’s success in recent years has been down to their player recruitment, the work behind the scenes also deserves credit.
Pep Guardiola’s arrival at the club necessitated a rebuild behind the scenes, with City going out of their way to put the best people in every position available.
Throughout the club, top people are working on every area to help drive and build Manchester City into an elite level club.
Nicolas Jover is one such person. The Frenchman joined the club as their set-piece specialist in the summer, with Pep Guardiola looking to address his side’s weakness in that area.
His impact has already been noticeable at City too, with their conversion rate from set-pieces doubling from last season already.
It seems, though, that the club have departed coach Mikel Arteta, now at Arsenal, to thank for taking Jover to Manchester City in the first place.
“Mikel was very influential,” he told L’Equipe.
“He’s a real leader and a personality.
“To take one example, he speaks six languages, including Italian, even though he’s never lived in Italy.”
Jover’s role with City is to provide ‘marginal gains’ on set-pieces, so to make sure, that whilst the club doesn’t rely on them, they get the best results possible.
Given he was recruited by Arteta it’s likely the manager will be looking for something similar at Arsenal.
